Remodeling is exciting, but there are a lot of moving pieces behind the scenes. Here are a few things to know before getting started.
Plan Ahead
From your first call to a finished remodel, the process typically takes at least 2 months, with 3–6 months being more common. Flooring, tile, cabinets and other products can take 6+ weeks to arrive, and our remodeling team and subcontractors are often booked a month or two in advance.
How Our Process Works
We’ll start by looking at your space, talking through what you’d like to accomplish and providing a ballpark price. If that sounds like a good fit, more involved remodels may require a design fee while we work through the details and selections before providing a firm proposal.
Once the proposal is accepted and your deposit is received, we’ll begin ordering materials. Projects are scheduled based on when deposits are received, materials are ready, and our remodeling team and subcontractors are available.
We Don’t Demo Until We’re Ready
We like to have your materials on hand and inspect them before demolition begins. We’d rather discover a damaged vanity before we tear out your bathroom than halfway through the project when a replacement could be weeks away.
Finalizing selections early is important, too. Changes or delayed decisions can affect both the schedule and cost, and not every product will work in every space.
Expect About 1–2 Weeks of Construction
We’re not a “24-hour bathroom” company. Most of our remodels take approximately 1–2 weeks from demolition to completion, depending on the scope of work and what we uncover along the way. Some parts of the process may also require drying or curing time before the next step can begin.
Your Bathroom Will Be Unusable
Once demolition begins, plan on the bathroom being unusable until the remodel is complete. Your water may also need to be shut off periodically while plumbing work is being completed. If this is your home’s only bathroom, let us know during the planning process.
You Don’t Have to Put Your Life on Hold
You don’t need to be home while we’re working. Many customers go to work, run errands or even schedule their remodel while they’re on vacation and provide us with a key or door code.
We’ll protect the floors and other areas of your home we’ll be traveling through, but remodeling is still construction. Expect some dust, noise, tools and people coming and going.
We’ll Help With the Moving Pieces
Depending on your project, you may need to visit different suppliers to select cabinets, tile, flooring or other materials. When you’re working with a local supplier, we’ll go with you when needed to help make sure the products you’re considering will work properly in your space.
We also work with a variety of trusted subcontractors. We’ve vetted the people we bring into your home and coordinate the different trades so you don’t have to manage everyone yourself.
Surprises & Changes Can Happen
Opening walls and floors can uncover things no one could see beforehand, such as water damage, deteriorated plumbing, framing issues or previous work that wasn’t done correctly. These discoveries can affect the price or timeline.
Changes made after work begins can do the same. The more decisions we can make and materials we can have ready before demolition, the smoother your remodel is likely to go.
A great remodel takes more than a day. It takes good planning. Our goal is to do as much of that planning as possible before demolition begins so your home spends less time as a construction zone.
