Know what’s below…Call before you dig.

If you plan to dig on your property, call 811 before starting. Some examples of projects that should include a call before you dig are installing a fence or mailbox, building a deck, pond or patio, and landscaping. Digging without knowing the approximate location of underground utilities increases the likelihood of unintentional damage, which can cause serious or even life threatening injuries, service disruptions and repair costs.  An underground utility line is damaged every eight minutes because someone decided to dig without first calling 811, according to a press release from www.call811.com. To have your property marked, simply call 811 a minimum of 2 business days prior to the start of your project.  You will need to know the address, township and county where the work will be done.
