A good garbage disposal is not the cheapest one on the shelf, nor does it need to be the most expensive. Most good disposals will reverse the direction of the cutting wheels each time they are turned on. They also generally carry a warranty exceeding 5 years.
With any disposal, trying to put excessive food waste down the drain without adequate water will result in problems. Only water and food waste should be put down a disposal. We do not generally recommend grinding up steak bones, chicken bones, etc.
Baking soda and vinegar down a disposal will do a nice job of cleaning and deodorizing.
